Frustrated!

Today my middle child gave me a workout.  It started with her not wanting to get out of bed. Then she decided to curl her hair.  Because she ran late, so did the other children. That includes one of our neighbors as well.  Then as I am leaving work, I open my cell to find a voicemail from her math teacher.  Apparently, they have decided to move her from the advanced math class to the lower math class as she has a 78 average at the moment.  The teacher feels that she is struggling. STRUGGLING!!   I know my child. She has always been in the advanced math class.  MATH is her thing.  So I point this out to the teacher and ask her what the situation is.  Like, for example, do you think she is trying?  The teacher then tells me that she may not be.  To make a long story short,  I have to call the adminstration tomorrow to see if I can buy her some time in the class, as I know she is going to improve.
The child has just turned fourteen.  My shy child has become a social butterfly.  Her grades aren't the worst.  She has always had honor roll.  Even at the beginning of this year.  NOW! She has two C's.  I have to constantly fight with her about homework and time management.  Today she admitted that she hates school and always has.  The silver lining is that she claims to be aware that there is no choice in the matter.  She also says that she will pull herself together.  It makes me sad that I have to ground her from going out and take away her privileges until she improves.  Why can't she care as much about her future as I do?
